The historic Santo André house is a 3-storey building that with its 5 suites, all with private bathrooms and air conditioning, is an excellent solution for families or groups wanting to travel together.

Located between the castle, Alfama, Mouraria and Graça districts, which are the heart of old Lisbon that survived the 1755 earthquake, a few minutes up to the castle and a few minutes down into the labyrinth that is old Alfama and Mouraria, full of life, smells and music.

The neighbourhood is made up of a labyrinth of narrow streets, winding alleyways, and steeply stepped passageways. Its Kasbah-like layout is deliberate-this is the city’s old Arab quarter, and although there are no Moorish houses still standing, the tightly packed streets, small archways, and stone-paved terraces are full of atmosphere and great fun to explore

A few minutes up to the castle, and a few minutes down into the marvellous labyrinth that is the old Alfama and Mouraria, full of life, smells and music. The only way to see the neighbourhood is to wander in, get lost (whether you like it or not) and be surprised at every turn by the narrow winding cobblestoned alleys.

The neighbourhood is also home to traditional Fado houses, where this unique Portuguese musical expression can be enjoyed in a rustic and romantic setting.

Lisbon’s old quarter offers many things to do. In addition to the castle, there are several historic 17th-century churches in the immediate vicinity, as well as the city’s impressive cathedral. A clutch of excellent museums provide cultural entertainment, and Lisbon’s largest flea market is here. Some of Lisbon’s best views are from squares and elevated vantage points, such as Portas do Sol, Senhora da Graça

A precious tile panel was found that was carefully removed and transferred to the National Tile Museum where it can be seen. Also found and preserved, 2 of the arches of the inner chapels as well as part of the original walls of the reconstruction of 1779. Integrated in the magnificent architectural project can be observed during your stay
