Arrival by car

Parking in the city centre is difficult and expensive so we do not recommend renting a car to visit the city. Most of the historic centre is closed to car traffic so it will be of little use.

If you need to rent a car to continue your trip in Portugal, it is preferable to rent one at the end of your stay.

The recommended car parks are as follows:

Santa Apolónia

The cheapest park for daily stays is Parque de Santa Apolónia, near Alfama. Each hour costs 1.20€, but the maximum daily rate is €8.

Cruise Ship Terminal

Another park slightly closer to the centre, is the Parque do Terminal de Cruzeiros near Alfama. Each hour costs €1.90, but the maximum daily rate is €12.
